At Precious Impact International (PII), our Livelihoods & Economic Empowerment work is grounded in that belief: that families and communities thrive when they have the tools, skills and opportunities to shape their own futures.

Why Livelihoods Are at the Core of Resilience

A family with a stable income can keep children in school. A community with diverse livelihoods can absorb shocks — a bad harvest, a health crisis, an economic downturn — without being pushed back into vulnerability. Livelihoods aren’t just about earning; they’re about the resilience and stability that ripple out into every other part of life.

For many households we work alongside, especially those led by women or young people, that stability is fragile — held back not by lack of ambition, but by lack of access: to skills, capital, markets or opportunity.

What Our Work Looks Like

PII supports appropriate approaches to economic empowerment and livelihood development, with particular attention to women, young people and vulnerable households. Our work may include:

Skills development — building practical, marketable skills suited to local economic realities.

Economic empowerment — expanding people’s ability to earn, save and invest in their futures.

Livelihood strengthening — helping existing income sources become more stable and productive.

Entrepreneurship — supporting individuals to start and grow their own small enterprises.

Household resilience — helping families withstand shocks without falling deeper into vulnerability.

Access to opportunities — connecting people to markets, networks and resources otherwise out of reach.

Capacity strengthening — building the confidence and know-how people need to sustain progress on their own.

Resilience, Not Just Relief

It would be easier to measure this work by how many training sessions were held or how many small grants were disbursed. But that’s not where the real impact lives. The real question is: is this household more resilient than it was before — able to withstand a setback without losing everything it has built?

That’s why our approach follows the same pathway we apply across all our work: Reach → Quality → Outcomes → Sustainability → Systems Change. A skills workshop only matters if it leads to real income, real stability, and a real shift in what a family or community can weather on its own.

Built With Communities, Not For Them

We know that people closest to a challenge are also closest to the solution. Our livelihoods programming is shaped with the households and communities it serves — respecting existing skills and local economic realities rather than imposing solutions that don’t fit.

Every Livelihood Rebuilt Is a Family Strengthened

Behind every livelihoods statistic is a mother who can now pay her children’s school fees, a young person who has started a small business instead of migrating for uncertain work, a household that can absorb a bad season without falling apart. When we invest in livelihoods, we invest in the resilience of entire families and communities.

Be Part of This Story

Sustainable livelihoods take more than good intentions. They take partners who bring market access and technical know-how, donors who fund skills and capital, volunteers who mentor and share expertise, and advocates who help others see the value of investing in people’s economic futures.

Strengthening Resilience, Expanding Opportunity: Our Livelihoods & Economic Empowerment Work Precious Impact International | Livelihoods & Economic Empowerment Dignity isn’t only found in having enough — it’s found in having the opportunity to build enough for yourself.
